Hi, I’m Alex Rodriguez (he/him) — a Cuban-born, Miami-raised stage director, actor, educator, and arts leader passionate about creating bold, innovative, and deeply human theatrical experiences. My work lives at the intersection of culture, community, and inclusivity, often leaning into non-traditional forms that invite audiences to engage, reflect, and feel a true sense of belonging. Whether I’m directing a production or teaching in the classroom, I’m driven to uplift diverse voices and tell stories that challenge assumptions, ignite conversation, and celebrate our shared humanity.
Over the past decade, I’ve had the privilege of directing across regional theaters, universities, and community spaces — from the Northeast Florida premiere of RENT to landmark productions of Waitress, Jersey Boys, and American Mariachi in Omaha.
As Co-Artistic Director of the Omaha Community Playhouse — one of the nation’s largest community-based nonprofit theatres — I helped guide the organization through meaningful change, including producing its first all-Latino show in its 100-year history, a milestone of cultural representation and celebration. Before that, I spent over a decade with Carnival Cruise Line Entertainment, performing internationally across Europe and the United States and serving as Cast Manager for the inaugural cast of Carnival Mardi Gras, where I led creative teams and collaborated with Broadway and West-End artists.
I hold an MFA in Directing (Musical Theatre) from Texas State University, ranked among The Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 Drama Schools, and a BFA in Musical Theatre from Jacksonville University. As an educator, I’ve taught acting and directing at Texas State and Marymount Manhattan College, shaping the next generation of storytellers with rigor, empathy, and joy.
At the heart of my work is a simple belief: theatre is a living, breathing space for connection — a place where transformation happens, and where the beauty, complexity, and resilience of our communities can truly shine.
